D.C. Spirit of Youth Breakfast Honors Youths’ Achievements
More than 100 people attended the Boys Town Washington, D.C., Spirit of Youth Breakfast June 24 to recognize Boys Town youth and their achievements.
The event’s Keynote Speaker, J.C. Watts, offered words of encouragement and inspiration to the crowd to keep up the good work. Just as it is his job to be a good example to his son and daughter, the former Congressman shared with the audience that Boys Town’s family dynamic serves as an ideal example to its youth of what life should be like for them.
The highlight of the breakfast came when two youth, Monique and Thomas, shared their moving stories after being honored. Thomas spoke about the life-skills that he learned at Boys Town and how he knows they will help him far into the future. He offered specific examples of being on the job or interacting with others and how what he learned at Boys Town helps him in the real world.
Monique, now a sophomore at Delaware State University, shared that although she’d had many ups and downs, she has been successful because of the support she has received from Boys Town and her foster family. She is proud of her many academic achievements and thanks her Boys Town family every day for her accomplishments.
“We had a great turnout at the event,” said Tosha Roundtree, Boys Town Washington, D.C., Development Director. “It was so wonderful to see so many people come and support our youth and our organization. We are proud of what we have been able to accomplish and even more excited about the accomplishments of the children.”
